The representatives of All Pakistan Textile Association (APTA), led by the chairman Adil Mehmood, have met Pakistan Muslim League Chief Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain, Secretary General Mushahid Hussain and Senate Standing Committee on Finance, Revenue and Economic Affairs, to apprise them of the problems of textile industry particularly of the spinning sector.
According to APTA Chairman Adil Mehmood, they informed the senate committee members that the textiles, particularly the spinning mills, which were already in server crisis due to high cost of production, would not sustain. He said the industry was already unable to compete because of various internal and external factors that had increased the cost of production tremendously.
He said the committee members were informed that the position would further aggravate as the extraordinary burden had been placed on the shoulders of the industry and quite negligible benefits had been extended to textile sector in the budget 2007-08.
Adil further said the representatives of APTA would also meet the Prime Minister and members of the Committee of the National Assembly on Textiles to discuss the problems of the industry.
