Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) must hold single country exhibitions of Pakistan at Tehran, Mashad and other cities of Iran to introduce Pakistani products in the Iranian market.
This was stated by the Iranian Consul General Masoud Mohammad Zamani while talking to KCCI president and members during his visit to the Chamber. He was accompanied by Commercial Counsellor Ghulam Raza Tajiki.
He was of the view that the present bilateral trade regime between Pakistan and Iran is no way near the potential and it is imperative that Pakistani exporters should not limit themselves to just supplying rice to his country.
They should endeavour to introduce other products that are required by the Iranian consumers. There are ample prospects for the Pakistani exporters and one vital and crucial way is to organise frequent single-country exhibitions in Iran, he added.
The Iranian diplomat further added that the Iran-Pakistan-India gas pipeline would soon be a reality as this is the crucial need of all three countries for their development.
He said that the IPI pipeline would bring immediate benefits for Pakistan, and it would boost the economy in many respects. He said that there is a major problem in controlling the undocumented trade at the Pakistan-Iran border since it is over 1000 miles long. He was of the opinion that efforts to control this menace would soon pay dividends.
Earlier, KCCI President Majyd Aziz while welcoming the Iranian diplomats briefed them about the workings of the Chamber and highlighted its achievements.
He said Pakistani exporters have not been able to take maximum advantage of the Iran market and hoped that the KCCI would undertake one single-country exhibition in November. He also welcomed the offer of the Consul General to have a strong Iranian participation in the next My Karachi Exhibition.
