The Kidney Centre signed a memorandum of understanding with Shell Pakistan to increase awareness about kidney diseases among the company's staff, contractors and the communities that live around its installations. Under this MoU, the Kidney Centre would provide awareness, education, free screening facilities, said a press release on Wednesday.
The MoU, signed between Zaiviji Ismail bin Abdullah, Managing Director & Chairman of Shell Companies in Pakistan and Mariana Karim, Chairperson of Kidney Center, was yet another milestone in the 23-year support that the two organisations had given to each other, the statement added. Zaiviji Ismail said the project sought to create awareness about kidney diseases and remove misconceptions regarding them.
He pointed out that the burden of hypertension was ever higher in the country, affecting about one third of Pakistanis, 45 years of age or older, according to the 1990-1994 National Health Survey of Pakistan.
"Shell Pakistan's partnership with the Kidney Center is a pioneering effort in countering the spread of the disease through focus on preventive measures. The health of a business largely depends on the health of its employees", Zaiviji added.-PR
