'Number of dengue cases decreases in Lahore'

LAHORE: Principal Post Graduate Medical Institute (PGMI) and Lahore General Hospital (LGH) Dr Tariq Salahuddin has said that the number of dengue cases has come down as a result of relentless efforts of Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, Health Department, and vigorous mass awareness campaign and no new case of dengue virus has been registered in LGH during the last 24 hours.

Dr Tariq Salahuddin disclosed this while talking to media here on Sunday. He said that Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif alerted the whole government machinery at the first hand information about dengue disease 45 days ago. He not only deputed additional staff at hospitals and ensured free treatment and concessional rates of dengue test but also invited Sri Lankan and Indonesian dengue experts who rendered great services to control dengue virus.

Dr Tariq said that LGH administration fully supported the efforts of Punjab Chief Minister in his campaign to curb dengue. High Dependency Units were established at LGH which were highly appreciated by dengue experts. Moreover, 153 number of new staff, including 103 nurses and 50 sanitary workers was also inducted at LGH who have taken the charge of their responsibility.

He further said that major chunk of dengue patients was treated at LGH and hospital administration spent all it resources for the treatment of dengue patients. Dr Tariq Salahuddin also lauded the services of doctors, nurses, student nurses and paramedical staff who played pivotal role in reducing the fear of dengue mosquitoes and treated patients carefully.

He stressed them to continue with the same spirit of serving the ailing humanity till the complete elimination of dengue. Dr Tariq Salahuddin appealed the masses to keep their homes and surrounding neat and clean in order stop the further spread of dengue virus and to make Lahore dengue free next year. He said that the LGH would also continue to hold seminars, training workshops and awareness walks so that people could be alert regarding preventive measures against dengue. He hoped that with the effective collaboration of government and civil society the menace of dengue would be ended forever very soon.
