Pakistans fast bowler Umar Gul has slammed senior batsman Shoaib Malik, for lack of performance against Australia in the just concluded One Day International (ODI) series.
Gul, who was one of the key players of Pakistan side which won the 2009 World T20, underwent a decline after his career was plagued by injuries. The fast bowler was of the view that Shoaib Malik, being a senior, should have went on to play against Australia in the fourth ODI and win the game for Pakistan.
Unfortunately, that was not meant to be as Malik gave away his wicket in the 36th over, and Pakistan went on to lose the match by 86 runs, and with that the series.
"There are always high expectations from seniors when they are present in the team and they should perform as well based upon their experience," stated Gul in an interview to Pak Passsion.Net.
"If you look at how well Shoaib Malik was placed for a big innings in the fourth ODI, it was expected that he should have converted that to a big hundred and taken Pakistan to victory but that did not happen which is not only a disappointment but also very troubling," he added.
Shoaib has represented Pakistan in 244 ODIs, but retired hurt in the fifth and final ODI at Adelaide, which Pakistan lost by 57 runs, losing the series 4-1.
