Pakistani wicketkeeper-batsman Sarfraz Ahmed has downplayed his previous statement, saying that he had no issues with former head-coach Waqar Younis, and claims that his statements were 'misconstrued' and 'misunderstood'.
The T20 captain has rejected previous reports, claiming that he was scared to speak out because of his fear of getting dropped from the squad, during the tenure of Waqar Younis.
"My comments have been misconstrued and misunderstood. I just said that that I am the sort of person who is always worried about my place in the team and that is why I dont say much," the Press Trust India (PTI) quoted Sarfraz as saying.
Sarfraz said that he was not referring to "specific time when Waqar Younis was our head coach." He added that he has always respected decisions taken by Waqar "and accepted them in the interest of the team."
The wicketkeeper-batsman then went on to praise the former Pakistani coach for providing him with encouragement during his time with the squad. "Waqar Younis during his tenure as head coach encouraged me to do better and he had a good understanding. At the end the aim is that the team does well," Sarfaraz said.
As per reports, Sarfraz is now being considered to lead team Pakistan in One Day Internationals (ODIs) as well.
