Pakistan One Day International (ODI) skipper Azhar Ali, has been under severe criticism after his side dismal show against Australia in the ongoing ODI series, which Pakistan have already lost 3-1.
With reports circulating that Azhar would soon be sacked form limited overs captaincy, and would be replaced by wicketkeeper batsman Sarfraz Ahmed in the upcoming Pakistan tour to the West Indies. Fellow fast bowler Umar Gulhas came out defending Azhar, saying that the embattled leader should be given more time.
He is still young and learning and I am a firm believer that instead of replacing Azhar, we should let him establish himself as captain, said Gul in an interview to Pak Passion.net.
Gul admitted that Azhar performance in the ODI format has not been up to the mark recently, It is a fact that Azhar Alis own performance is suffering but more importantly, he is not able to deliver as a captain as has been the expectation.
Gul who was the key exponent for Pakistan side which won the 2009 World T20 has went on to represent Pakistan in 47 Tests, 130 ODIs and 60 T20I claiming 163,179,85 scalps, respectively.
He further opined that whoever, is appointed as the captain by PCB should be allowed ample time for the future run.
