MOSCOW: Russian President Vladimir Putin called Syria's Bashar al-Assad Friday to congratulate him on finishing the "liberation" of Aleppo, the Kremlin said.
"Putin congratulated (Assad) with the end of the operation of liberation of Aleppo from fighters," it said in a statement, adding that the main goal remains to secure peace in the war-ravaged country.
