Pakistan’s new sensational batsman Babar Azam was one of the few positives for the national side during their recently concluded New Zealand tour.
The New Zealand tour turned out to be disastrous for Misbah’s men as they not only suffered a whitewash in the two match series, but also lost their grip on the Test rankings as Pakistan plunged to 4th place from second in the latest ICC Test Rankings.
The young Babar Azam, who has played only three Test matches, however is being hailed as Pakistan’s answer to India’s batting maestro Virat Kohli, by Pakistan cricket coach Mickey Arthur.
"He's a young gun who will be an exceptional player. I'll go so far as to say, at the same age, I reckon, he's as good as Virat Kohli, which I know that's high praise but he's right up there," Pakistan coach Mickey Arthur was quoted as saying, reported the Sydney Morning Herald.
The comparison with Kohli comes early for Azam who is in only his second year of international cricket.
However, if stats are taken into account, Azam, averages 46.40 after three Tests, which is way ahead of Kohli who had an average of 15.2 playing equal number of matches. Babar is more impressive in ODI’s who has three centuries, five fifties and an average of 52.11 under his belt, playing only 18 ODIs.
