The government has approved a PC-I for dualisation of 454 km long Surab-Basima-Nag-Panjgur-Hoshab Road (N-85) aimed at providing the connectivity of Gwadar Port to Central Asian States.
The decision was taken during the executive board meeting of National Highway Authority under the chairmanship of Major General Farrukh Javed here at NHA headquarters on Monday.
Following the directives of Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz, the meeting Okayed the PC-I for improvement and construction of N-85. The meeting was informed that National Trade Corridor (NTC) would be completed by 2014.
The NHA Chairman, Farrukh Javed informed the board about the three-day proceedings of general managers' conference that reviewed maintenance of ongoing projects, contracts and price escalation that is affecting projects.
He said they have decided to hold a meeting with the consultants and contractors to improve their design concepts, as it is the authority that suffers due to bad design by the consultant.
He said, while bidding, contractors would be asked to adopt latest design concepts that meet the international standards.
During the day-long meeting, the executive board approved various projects that include VO No 4 of M/s Engineering Associates for extension of time for construction supervision services of Tarnol-Taxila rehabilitation project (N-5), VO No 5 of M/s Remco & EA (JV) for extension of time for construction supervision services for D.I. Khan-Mughalkot road project (N-50), VO No 1 of M/s Sheikh Akhtar & Company for widening & improvement of road from Gulyana to Thoha Rai Bahadur (KM 11+000 to KM 22+000), VO No 3 for extension of time of M/s Asian Consulting Engineers (Pvt) Ltd for construction supervision of Khanqah Dogran Interchange on M-2, and VO No 2 and revised BOQs of the construction contractor of M/s Hakas for construction of Islamabad-Muzaffarabad dual carriageway project.
Moreover, the executive board approved the audited financial statements for the year ended June 30, 2000 and extension in contract appointment of 13 deputy directors (engineers, BS-18).
It was decided to include M/s Dadabhoy Insurance Co Ltd, M/s Muslim Insurance Co Ltd, M/s Picic Insurance Co Ltd, M/s Silver Star Insurance Co Ltd, on approved panel of the NHA and their paid-up capital will be Rs 80 million, Rs 101 million, Rs 200 million and Rs 80 million respectively.
Besides NHA chairman, Arif Mansur Additional Secretary (B&A) Finance Division, Firdous Alam, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Communications, Karamatullah Chaudhry, Vice President Nespak, Kazim Idrees, Chief NTRC, Pervaiz Rathore, AIG (National Highways & Motorway Police), Altaf Ahmed Chaudhry, Member (Motorways) NHA, Sabir Hassan, Acting Member (Operations), NHA, Raja Nowsherwan Sultan, Member Planning, NHA and Imtiaz Hussain, Director General (Admn) NHA attended the meeting.
