The Nigerian High Commissioner to Pakistan Umar-El-Gash Maina has said that that Nigeria is desirous of forging closer trade relations with Pakistan.
Addressing the members of Sialkot Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI) on Tuesday here he said that the aim of his visit to Sialkot was availing the opportunity of interacting with the business community.
The visit will surely help identifying area of industrial and commercial activities in Sialkot commercial zone and to determine how to enhance the trade between the two countries he said. The Nigerian High Commissioner stressed upon the business community of Sialkot to invest in Nigeria adding that very liberal tax policy had been introduced for the promotion of trade in the country. In Nigeria there are certain products that understandably cannot be imported and such banned products include textile, matches, fruit juices and sugar etc.
The step he said has been taken for encouraging local entrepreneurs and foreign investors to move into manufacturing within the country. The High Commissioner stressed upon the business community of Pakistan to avail the opportunity and invest in Nigeria. Umar-El-Gash further told the chamber that Nigerian security system is functioning well and foreigners are fully protected and there is no need to worry.
He pointed out that many people were complaining about receiving phoney offers from fraudsters' base in Nigeria. The Nigerian High Commissioner advised the businessmen that they should avoid this tendency and approach the High Commission for assessing the genuineness of business offers from partner in Nigeria.
In his address of welcome President SCCI Dr Nouman Idries Butt said that there is a great chance for joint ventures with Nigerian firms and Nigerian firms could established joint business collaborations and joint ventures with Sialkot based companies in the field of sports goods, surgical instruments, leather goods and Information Technology.
