Brazil to provide germplasm, sugarcane cotton improvement technology

sugarcane_cottonISLAMABAD: Brazil would provide germplasm exchange, sugarcane and cotton improvement technology to enhance agriculture output as well for development of the sector in the country.

A four member Delegation from Brazilian Cooperation Agency (ABC) led by Bruno de Amorim Maciel visited Pakistan Agriculture Research Council (PARC) here Thursday and discussed proposed areas of cooperation.

Chairman PARC, Dr. Iftikhar Ahmad welcomed the Brazilian delegation and reiterated the keen interest of the government to strengthen cooperation between both the countries in agr-research and development.

Head of Brazalian delegation Bruno assured their full cooperation in the prosperity of agriculture in Pakistan.

The delegation members informed that first both the governments will sign general agreement for Technical Cooperation which would be followed by specific agreements in different fields.

Brazilian side has also shown their interest to help Pakistan overcome the dengue virus which is currently a big issue in the Punjab province.

The provincial representative requested the Brazilian delegation to provide literature and other related information to develop dengue management strategy.

Pakistan side has shown their interest to coordinate in the acquisition of some latest agricultural machines related to sugarcane and cotton crops for which possibilities of linkage of private sectors of both the countries may be explored.

Pakistan side has shown their interest for the capacity building of their institutions to establish model units used for the productivity enhancement of crop and livestock of small scale farmers.

Brazilian delegation suggested that Pakistani delegations may visit Brazil in two stages for mutually benefiting in the sugarcane, cotton and exchange of germplasm, rural extension and public policies for small scale farmers.

The delegation also visited the National Agricultural Research Centre (NARC) and appreciated the research activates being carried out at the center.
