Police have set up a special team to bring Mufti Abdul Qavi, who has been nominated as a possible suspect in Qandeel Baloch’s murder case, to the book.
Pakistan’s controversial internet sensation Baloch was strangled to death by her brother in the name of honour last month.
According to local media reports, Mufti Qavi will have to undergo a polygraph test during the interrogation. The suspect had gone in hiding, his phone has been switched off and he cannot be traced, police said.
However, Mufti Qavi on Monday claimed that police had not contacted him at all on Monday. He said that if the police were to contact him, he would offer them full cooperation with regard to the Qandeel Baloch murder case.
“I am sitting in my madressah and have not gone underground,” said Mufti Qavi in a video message.
Mufti Abdul Qavi also told media persons that one of his mobile phones was not in working condition after he dropped it into water. Qavi would be investigated and after investigation it could be ascertained, if he was involved or otherwise in the case.
The murder took place in July when Qandeel was sleeping at her house in Muzaffabad area, Multan, her parents said in a statement recorded to the police. Her parents were sleeping on the rooftop.
Waseem, her brother confessed to strangling Qandeel to death in apparent honour-killing. He is in police custody.
