Service sector exports surge 23.58 percent in two months

karachi_port_containersISLAMABAD: Exports of services sector surged by 23.58 per cent during the first two months of the current fiscal year over the same period of last year, Federal Bureau of Statistics (FBS) reported.

The exports of services during July-August (2011-12) reached to $760 million against the exports of $615 million during July-August (2011-12), showing an increase of 23.58 percent, according to the provisional figures released by FBS.

Imports of services into the country witnessed 6.63 percent increase by growing from $1.116 billion during the first two months of last year to $1.190 billion during July-August (2011-12).

Based on the provisional figures, the services trade deficit remained at $430 million in July-August (2011-12), showing negative growth of 14.17 percent when compared to the deficit of $501 million during the same months of last year.

During August 2011, the exports of services increased by 23.82 percent when compared to the exports of the same month of last year.

Exports during August reached to $395 million against the exports of $319 million in August 2010.

Imports of service during August 2011 stood at $579 million against the imports of 556 million during the same month of last year, showing an increase of 4.14 percent.

Based on the figures, the trade deficit during August 2011 remained $184 million, showing a negative growth of 22.36 percent when compared to the deficit of $237 million during the same month of last year.

In August 2011 the exports increased by 8.22 percent while the imports witnessed negative growth of 5.24 percent when compared to the exports and imports of July 2011.

Exports and imports of services during July 2011 were recorded at $365 million ad $611 million respectively.

Based on the figures, the trade deficit during August stood at $184 million, showing negative growth of 25.20 percent when compared to the deficit of $246 million in July 2011, the FBS reported.
