SYDNEY: Australian share prices opened 1.4 percent higher on Thursday following rises on Wall Street spurred by signs Europe is planning to protect its banks from the effects of a Greek debt default.
The benchmark S&P/ASX 200 climbed 55.2 points to 3,981.7 in the first few minutes of of trading, in line with analysts' predictions.
"Based on the positive close to the Wall Street session we are looking at the local market building on yesterday's solid gains," IG Markets said.
