The Export Promotion Bureau (EPB) of Pakistan, while identifying potential markets, has set targets for export of auto parts for the year 2004-05.
Chairman EPB Tariq Ikram said this while addressing the manufacturers and exporters of auto parts at EPB Office here on Wednesday.
Tariq maintained that that there was a need to increase the volume of auto parts export to the existing markets as well as fresh markets. He mentioned that areas such as Eastern Europe, Africa and Oceania particularly needed to look in for opportunities for exporting auto parts produced in the country.
In order to enhance exports, the meeting identified areas with target export volumes as: US ($5 million), UK ($2million), Germany ($1million), France ($1 million), Italy ($3million), Spain ($0.5million), UAE ($2.5 million), Sri Lanka ($0.75 million, Bangladesh ($0.75 million) and Afghanistan ($0.75 million).
Ikram said total exports of auto parts of the country, currently stood at $6.3 million. Besides, setting a target of $18 million for identified areas; the meeting termed Saudi Arabia, Brazil, Canada, Egypt, Australia, Kenya and Poland as potential exploratory markets.
He also asked 'PAAPAM to conduct a survey for enhancing country's auto parts exports' on the occasion.
Emphasising the need for diversification of country's exports, he said this process should be lined geographically as well as in terms of the commodity.
Syed Nabil Hashmi Chairman PAAPAM gave a presentation to Chairman EPB on status of auto parts export and their problems on the occasion.
A total number of four delegations are to be sent by EPB and PAAPAM to Eastern Europe, South America and Africa.
In promotional programme of export, EPB in collaboration with PAPAAM will hold exhibitions in US, UK, Germany, France, Italy, UAE, and Spain.
