Only six institutes of higher education in Pakistan made it to the top 800 universities of the world, according to ranking published by Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), a British ranking agency.
As per the QS World University Rankings for 2015-16, the Pakistani universities that made it to the top 800 are, University of Karachi (KU), National University of Sciences And Technology (NUST) Islamabad, Quaid-e-Azam University (QAU), Lahore University of Management Sciences (Lums), University of Engineering and Technology (UET) Lahore, and the University of Lahore.
Nust Islamabad was by far the highest rated university ranked 501-550 at the QS, while QAU was second among Pakistani universities ranking 651-700, followed by KU, LUMS, UET Lahore and University of Lahore with 701+.
The ranking are composed of six indicators with separate weightages, academic reputation (40 per cent), employer reputation (10pc), student- to -faculty ratio (20pc), citations per faculty (20pc), international faculty ratio (5pc) and international students (5pc).
The methodology assess universities in four areas i.e. research, teaching, employability and internationalization.
The top 10 universities in the world in the QS rankings 2015-16, are the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Harvard University, Cambridge University, Stanford University, California Institute of Technology, University of Oxford, University College London, Imperial College, ETH Zurich and the University of Chicago, respectively.
