City govt begins cleanliness work after rain

karachi_waterKARACHI: DCO Karachi Mohammad Hussain Syed has said that rain water accumulated on all major thoroughfares of city has been removed and now drainage of water from inner roads and streets was underway.

All town administrations and concerned departments of city government have been directed to pay special attention to cleanliness works.

He expressed these views during visit of Saddar Town and different localities of old city area on Wednesday, said a statement.

The DCO said that after removal of rain water from main roads, cleaning work has been started and this would also be completed in least possible time.

He said that disciplinary action would be taken against the officers who would show negligence in the removal of garbage and waste from roads and streets.

He said that extensive fumigation campaign was also initiated in the city which will continue till November. Four towns will be covered daily during the campaign.

Meanwhile DCO Karachi Mohammad Hussain Syed strictly warned the engineers of Works & Services Department to perform field work, spot faults in timely drainage of rain water and make planning to remove them or they would have to face disciplinary action.

Addressing a review meeting of the arrangements made for rains in the city he said that performance of Works department was not found satisfactory during recent rains.

Two senior officials had been suspended on this account and if other officials didn't improve their performance, they would have to face similar action.

The meeting was attended by EDO Works and Services Altaf G. Memon, EDO Health Dr. Nasir Javed, EDO MS Masood Alam, EDO F and P Aamir Khursheed and other officials.
