KARACHI: Almost all major roads and streets in the city witnessed worst traffic jams with the start of heavy rain Saturday afternoon.
Motorists waited helplessly in their vehicles for hours as traffic moves with snail pace on M A Jinnah Road, I.I. Chundrigar Road, Shahrah-e-Faisal, Shahrah-e-Pakistan, University Road, Preedy Street, Mai Kolachi Road.
The worst traffic jam was witnessed on Shharah-e-Faisal where motorists left their vehicles along the footpaths and walked home. A large number of vehicles developed faults and were seen parked by the roads. Water was accumulated at Baloch Colony and Nursery round about.
Traffic police personnel and volunteers of city government were seen busy, ensuring smooth flow of traffic, but to no avail.
Rain water entered underpasses in Nazimabad and Liaquatabad and badly disturbed smooth flow of traffic on two traffic corridors.
Heavy trailers and tankers blocked Mai Kolachi Road, causing severe traffic jam at Schon Chowrangi and Sub-Marine Chowrangi for hours.
Main Korangi Road was also blocked as rain water accumulated near KPT Interchange.
