Qaim directs Health officials to give full cover to rain victims

HYDERABAD: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah has directed the Health department to provide full medical facilities to rain victims at relief camps, fixed hospitals and at their temporary shelters by mobile medical teams.

In compliance of instructions, the Director General Health Services Sindh informed that more than 0.2 million patients have been provided medical treatment at fixed and mobile medical teams from August 12 to September 6, 2011.

He said that under the instructions, 140 fixed medical camps and 110 mobile medical camps have been made functional with 906 medical staff.

He said that out of a total of 2,00,746 patients, 91,437 were provided treatment at fixed medical camps while 109309 patients were treated through mobile medical camps.

In his report, he further said that skin diseases was on the rise among rain victims and 29,189 patients have been treated only for skin diseases.

He said that eye infection remained at second number with treatment of 7,973 patients. He said that Malaria test of 1158 patients proved positive while 27,748 patients were under investigation.

He said that the fixed and mobile medical units carrying anti-venom serum and other medicines treated 759 snake bite cases.

The Director General Health in his reports informed that till September 6, a total of 29 rain related deaths have been reported to his department.

In order to take preventive measures, he informed that Malaria residual spray and fumigation has been carried out and added that immunization of children and pregnant women was also in progress in the camps and affected villages.
