Operation against terrorists is above any political consideration: DG Rangers

KARACHI: The ongoing operation against terrorists and target killers is across the board with absolutely no consideration towards, if any, of their political or religious affiliations, said DG Rangers Sindh Major General Ejaz Chaudhry.

Addressing a press conference on Tuesday evening he said this operation needed to be pursued on strong lines and for a longer duration with a campaign like approach till the unscrupulous elements were effectively controlled.

The special notification issued by Sindh Home Department on August 25 this year which authorised both the police and Sindh Rangers to launch their operation in every part of the city.

About the complaint that the ongoing action is not visible, he said such interventions may not be very evident, however, their effects must be felt and are being felt.

He said the criminals would take advantage of any slow down in the action underway and would play havoc if given minutes of chances.

He said the operation is based on intelligence reports and reliable information with due consideration towards the fact that no inconvenicne is caused to peace loving and law abiding citizens.

The DG Rangers reiteratered that rangers have always maintained their neutrality and no town or area is being focussed.

"Action is taken in the areas only on basis of solid information about presence of terrorists there," he said.

Replying to questions about street crimes in the city, he said such cases and control of law and order, in general, comes under the purview of police, however, rangers do assist them whenever asked for support.

About source of weapons retrieved from terrorists, Ejaz Chaudhry said these have been smuggled into the country and the source is known well by almost every one in the country.

As for the issue of land grabbing in the city, he said the provincial government has already constituted a "Special Anti Encroachment Force".
