Majority of Pakistanis oppose periodic shut down of CNG sale by govt
ISLAMABAD: A clear majority (81%) of Pakistanis oppose the periodic shut down of CNG sale by government. 48% fear that the provision of CNG will be completely discontinued in the next five years, showed the results of a survey conducted by Gallup Pakistan.
In a survey a nationally representative sample of men and women from across the four provinces were asked the following question: “Do you support or oppose the decision of government to shut down CNG sale for two and half days every week?” A majority (81%) of the respondents opposed the periodic shut down of CNG sale by government, while only 8% supported this decision. 11% of the respondents did not know.

In a related survey, a nationally representative sample of men and women from across the four provinces were asked the following question: In your view, is there a possibility that in the next five years the provision of CNG will be discontinued throughout the country? 12% responded that there is a greater possibility that the provision of CNG will be discontinued in the next five years, while 36% said that there is somewhat little possibility. 35% of the Pakistanis held the view that the provision of CNG will not be discontinued and 17% did not know.

The study was released by Gilani foundation and carried out by Gallup Pakistan, the Pakistani affiliate of Gallup International. The recent survey was carried out among a sample of 2624 men and women in rural and urban areas of all four provinces of the country, during July 31-August 1, 2011.
Error margin is estimated to be approximately + 2-3 per cent at 95% confidence level.
