SEOUL: South Korean shares closed 1.96 percent lower on Monday as investors remained jittery over the prospects for US economic growth and the eurozone's debt crisis.
The benchmark KOSPI index declined 34.18 points to 1,710.70 on heavy selling by foreign and individual investors.
Samsung Electronics, the nation's largest firm by value, gained 1.62 percent while top automaker Hyundai Motor slide 5.28 percent.
