TOKYO: Japanese shares closed down 0.55 percent on Wednesday as dealers fretted over the economic outlook in the US and Europe and as a persistently strong yen hit sentiment, brokers said.
The Nikkei index at the Tokyo Stock Exchange fell 50.17 points to close at 9,057.26. The Topix index declined 0.31 percent or 2.41 points to 776.65.
