Slovak power output up 4.6pc

BRATISLAVA: Slovak electricity production rose 4.6 percent in the first half of 2011 to 14.8 terawatts, boosted by higher nuclear capacity, the launch of a new steam-gas plant and more renewable, data showed on Tuesday.

At the same time power consumption growth slowed from the year ago period, rising 1.5 percent to 14.6 terawatts, Slovenske Elektrarne (SE), a unit of Italy's Enel said in a monthly report.

Key factors contributing to the higher output were boosting capacity at each block of the Jaslovske Bohunice nuclear power plant to 505 megawatts from 440 megawatts and the launch of the 430 megawatt combined gas and steam power plant operated by German E.ON

The volume of gross production in Slovenske Elektrarne's power plants was 11.4 terawatts with 69 percent coming from nuclear, 16 percent coming from hydro and 12 percent from thermal power plants. The remaining three percent came from other producers.

Slovenske Elektrarne operates 5,749 MW of total installed capacity.
