Technical education to curtail unemployment

PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Technical Education & Mineral Development Nawabzada Mahmood Zeb said that unemployment could be curtailed through promotion of technical education as majority of countries have made progress by adopting this policy.

He stated this while addressing the concluding session of the two days workshop on "Case Based Teaching" here at Regional office of Higher Education Commission Peshawar.

The teachers of nine universities of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa attended the workshop. The objective of the workshop was to apprise teachers of the universities about latest methods of teaching.

Expanding on the thoughts, Nawabzada Mahmood Zeb said that a large number of children quit their schooling before matric due to a number of factors.

He said that Technical Education Department had started vocational training with a view to provide respectable life to the youth and help them earn their livelihood.

Provincial Minister said that 10 new government colleges have been established in the province for technical education.

He said that 28 percent unskilled youth went aboard for labour adding that the same youth could have benefited the province if they were given skill training.

The Minister urged the Higher Education Commission to focus on provision of technical education along with general education.

Speaking on the occasion, former Regional Director HEC Farmanullah Anjum shed light on the significance of case based teaching saying universities should adopt latest methods in order to compete with advanced varsities of the world.

He also dwelled upon performance and services of Higher Education Commission in the education sector.
