ISLAMABAD: Some 179,210 Pakistanis will perform Hajj this year including 89,605 each under government and private schemes, said Joint Secretary Hajj Hafiz Sher Ali on Sunday.

Talking to APP, Hafiz Sher Ali said the Ministry for Religious and Hajj Affairs still had 325 seats under the special quota against whom the intending pilgrims, who had applied by July 23, would be accommodated.

He said special Hajj quota had been reduced from 15 to 2.7 percent. No quota has been allocated for parliamentarians or their families, he added.

Giving break-up of the 2.7 percent Hajj quota, he said 85 percent of it was for the common man while 15 percent was for the people of far flung areas, destitute women and low-paid employees. As many as 800 intending pilgrims have already been selected under the special quota, he said.

He said around 900 Khuddam-ul-Hujjaj would be engaged to provide services to the intending pilgrims.

About 75,000 buildings have so far been hired for the intending pilgrims in Saudi Arabia, he added.
