NEW YORK: The euro accelerated gains against the US dollar on Thurday, hitting fresh two-week highs after French President Nicolas Sarkozy said European leaders have agreed to create the beginnings of a European Monetary Fund.
The euro rose as high as $1.44177 on trading platform EBS, its highest since July 6, and was last at $1.43881, up 1.2 percent.
