PESHAWAR: The government has allocated Rs. 661.000 million for two ongoing and 12 new schemes in the mines and mineral sectors.
This was stated by Provincial Finance Minister Eng. Hamayun Khan while speaking in the provincial assembly here on Saturday. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, being a mountainous region, has tremendous potential in marble, granite and other decorative stones etc, relating to construction industry.
Other resources are Nepheline Syenite, Phosphates, Gemstones, and metallic minerals including gold and base metals and variety of other industrial minerals.
The government in the past introduced regulatory mechanisms for exploring the maximum benefits and productivity in this sector, he added.
He said, the department under their proposed program will undertake projects for institutional strengthening, establishment of model marble quarries in Buner, Chitral and Mardan districts, model coal mine in Nowshera district, model sop stone mine in Abbottabad, value addition of ore minerals, construction of shingle roads in mineral bearing areas.
Besides, it will also conduct feasibility studies for coal and iron exploration in the potential areas of province.
