KARACHI: Inspector General Police (IGP) Sindh, Fayyaz Leghari has said that 'target killings' and cases of 'extortion' were major challenges being faced by Police Department in Karachi.
He was talking to a delegation of ASPs who called on him at the Police Head Office as part of the 37th Special Training Programme.
"We hope to overcome the menace very soon," he said.
Leghari said that the number of cases of kidnapping in interior of Sindh province have been curbed to a great extent and a large number of dacoits have also been arrested and many killed in encounters with police in various operations.
He said that the operation against dacoits was underway in the 'katcha area' of interior of the province.
In addition, the IGP said that 61 alleged dacoits wanted in various cases were killed in encounters with police, 2,353 allegedly hardened criminals were arrested during the last five months.
Leghari said that the police also arrested 500 proclaimed offenders and recovered large number of arms, ammunition and explosives from the accused.
Since January this year, 23 policemen also embraced martyrdom and 43 sustained injuries in various operations against outlaws, he maintained.
