US has no official line yet on IMF succession: Clinton
PARIS: The United States has yet to "officially" back a candidate to lead the IMF global lender, US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton said on Thursday, adding that "unofficially" she would welcome a woman in the job.
Clinton said she welcomed the candidacy of a qualified women for the post, in an apparent veiled reference to the widely-backed bid by France's Finance Minister Christine Lagarde, but did not endorse her explicitly.
"The US has not taken a position on any candidacy as yet," Clinton said in Paris where she had met ministers of the OECD economic organisation.
"Officially, the United States will be assessing and then eventually announcing its preferred candidate," Clinton said.
"Unofficially, we welcome women who are well qualified and experienced to head leading organisations such as the IMF."
