Egg prices soar with advent of cold

Published December 8, 2013 Updated December 8, 2013 02:08pm

imageRAWALPINDI: Egg prices have started soaring with the advent of cold as traders want to earn more money.

At present retail price for one dozen eggs is Rs.110 while in summer they were being sold at Rs. 70 to 80.

The customers ut up questions that why not the stern action is taken against those who want to sale daily use items including edibles at higher rates.

Like several other items now, the egg prices are going out of reach of general public. Use of dry fruits in winter is already out of the reach of low income groups and use of eggs is the only choice they have to maintain their body temperature and to meet other seasonal nutritional needs while the coldness is increasing day by day.

That is why in winter season people of all age groups use eggs and its consumption reaches to its peak.

"The situation needs that stern action must be taken against profiteers and they should be punished for charging more to the fixed rates of edibles. The negligence on part of authorities concerned encourages traders and retailers as well to charge their desired amount from the customers", said Altaf.

"The recent increase in egg prices is attributed to increase in coldness and the prices are likely to increase again with an increase in their demand," said Munir a shopkeeper. With more rains, egg prices would go up again," he added.

"Prices of everything are rising, fruits, wheat flour, eggs and several other daily use items have become more expensive within last few weeks, the shopkeepers are fleecing the public, but the authorities concerned have failed to take any action to bring down the prices, " said Shamila, a housewife.

Meanwhile the citizens have called for taking action against those who are earning more profits and demanded for fixation and monitoring of the prices which would benefit the common people.
