Pakistan-WaterISLAMABAD: Chairman Indus River System Authority (IRSA) Rao Irshad Ahmed said on Monday that 20 acre feet water reservoirs are available in dams and there is no shortage of water in the country.

Talking to PTV, he said that the present storage of water in the water reservoir is double than during this period last year.

He said at present 2.3 million acre feet of water is available in the reservoirs as against 1.2 million acre feet last year.

Chairman IRSA said that there is no shortage of water for the Rabi crop and all the provinces are being provided water according to their demands.

He said Punjab is presently getting one lakh fifteen thousand cusecs, Sindh seventy five thousand cusecs, Balochistan five thousand cusecs and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa three thousand cusecs.

To a question, he said there is 0.6 million acre feet of water in Tarbela Dam, 1.6 million acre in Mangla and 0.1 million acre feet in Chashama barrage which is enough to meet the requirements of Kahlif crop and there is no problem in meeting the demands of the provinces.

He said the Indus River System Authority (IRSA) released 215,645 cusecs water from various rim stations with inflow of 273,526 cusecs.

The water level in Tarbela and Mangla dams has significantly increased due to improved water flow in all major rivers, he added.

He confirmed improvement in the water availability attributing it to the temperature and a short term little impact of the recent rains that fed the catchment areas of the dams.
