LONDON: European stock markets closed down sharply on Friday, with London's FTSE 100 index of leading shares dropping 1.40 percent to 5,881.37 points.
In Paris, the CAC 40 fell 1.41 percent to 4, 02.32 points while in Frankfurt the DAX slid 0.74 percent to 7,102.80 points.
