NEW YORK: US stocks opened solidly up on Friday after the government announced the economy surged to 3.2 percent in the last quarter of 2010.
The Dow Jones Industrial index jumped above the 12,000 barrier shortly after the open, rising 15.74 points (0.13 percent) to 12,005.27.
The broader S&P 500 was up 1.80 (0.14 percent) at 1,301.34.
