BEIJING: China's top political advisor, Jia Qinglin, has urged the Islamic Association of China to strengthen its doctrinal teaching on the ideas of peace, unity and patriotism among the country's Muslim population.
Jia made the remarks during his meeting with representatives for a conference on the 10th anniversary of the campaign aimed at interpreting Islamic doctrines and rules in a modern way to promote the religion' s traditions, reports Xinhua Tuesday.
The Islamic Association of China started the activity in 2001 in a bid to promote positive ideas in Islamic doctrine that are compatible with a socialist society and refute evil ideas and fallacies.
Jia, a member of the Standing Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee's Political Bureau, urged the association to improve their teaching content and methods, and promote the ideas of peace, unity and patriotism among Muslims.
Jia also called for interpreters of doctrine to boost their political beliefs, understanding of laws and policies, and religious knowledge.
More than 200 people, including renowned figures from the country's Islamic community and officials from various local Islamic associations, attended the conference.
