One dead, dozens missing in Philippine landslide

DAVAO: One person was killed and dozens were left missing after a landslide hit a small gold mining town in the southern Philippines on Friday, authorities said.

The director of the government's disaster-monitoring agency, Benito Ramos, told AFP one person was confirmed dead and five others were injured after being rescued from the rubble.

He said he did not know how many were missing.

But a spokesman for the military team that rushed to the site, Lieutenant Colonel Camilo Ligayo, said residents had told him that about 40 people were missing and feared buried.
