sc_building_400ISLAMABAD: Attorney General for Pakistan Molvi Anwarul Haq on Tuesday apprised the Supreme Court that the Federation was sticking to its earlier stance of engaging a counsel of its choice to represent it in a plea seeking review of a decision annulling the National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO).

He also informed the apex Court that he had made his best efforts to persuade the Federation about the Court's observations.

The 16-member bench headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry told the Attorney General (AG) that since one of the bench members (Justice Tassaduq Hussain Jillani) was indisposed, they were adjourning the case for two-weeks.

To bench's query, the AG told that Solicitor General Syed Nasir Hussain had prepared the reply to a show cause notice served upon him by the Court for making a statement regarding withdrawal of Advocate on Record (AoR) Raja Abdul Ghafoor from the case.

The Court noted that the AoR had not filed the reply to the show cause notice.

Inspector General of Police Islamabad Wajid Durrani also submitted a report of inquiry regarding hurling of threats to Barrister Kamal Azfar and his family members. The Chief Justice ordered its circulation among the bench members.

On Monday the Full Court issued a notice to AoR Raja Abdul Ghafoor saying that as to why his name should not be removed from the rolls of the Supreme Court under Rules 3 as he had failed to discharge his duties properly.

A similar show cause notice was served upon the Solicitor General by the court for his false statement by observing that he embarrassed the Federation and the Court with his stance.

It had also suggested to the AG to argue the case himself as under the Supreme Court rules in absence of counsel, AoR would replace him. However, keeping in view of the AOr's stature, the Court would accommodate him.

He was advised to take up the issue with the quarters concerned.

The AG sought time for consultation with the authorities concerned.
