Arshad Pappu murder case: Brother of banned PAC chief arrested

KARACHI: Police on Wednesday claimed arresting two alleged killers, including a brother of Uzair Jan Baloch, the head of the banned Peoples Amn Committee (PAC).

The development came after the Supreme Court took suo motu action on the Arshad pappu murder case.

Tension prevailed in various Old City areas following the arrests as enraged mobs took to the streets and resorted to heavy firing, suspending all civic and commercial activities.

Addressing a press conference, SP City Town Ahmad Jamal said that Arshad Pappu, one of the main characters of the Lyari gang war, his brother Yasir Arafat and his accomplice Shera Pathan had been murdered on the midnight of March 17-18. After killing them, the attackers desecrated their bodies by using their heads as football’, cut up their corpses and then burnt and flushed their ashes into Lyari River.

He said that after the Supreme Court took suo motu notice, police officials deployed in Lyari were transferred and subsequently Kalakot police registered a murder case (23/13) on the complaint of Arshad’s widow Asma against Uzair, son of Faiz Muhammad alias Faizu Mama, his brother Zubair, Noor Muhammad alias Baba Ladla, Asif Kana, Faisal Pathan, Yasir Pathan, Zakir alias Dada, Shahjahan Baloch and Habib Jan Baloch. He said that later Lyari police conducted a raid at a bus stand that led to the arrests of two persons, including the brother of Uzair named Zubair, and Zakir Dada.

He said that the detained persons were arrested from the office of a bus stand and they were trying to escape to Balochistan.

SP City Town Ahmad Jamal said that of those who had been nominated in the murder case, Aqeel alias ‘commando’ had been killed in a shootout with Rangers, three others, including Zubair, Zakir alias Dada and Abdur Rehman, had been arrested while others had been declared absconders.

He claimed that ‘peace’ had been restored in Lyari and many Lyari gangsters had escaped to Balochistan after police and Rangers conducted a crackdown.
