ISLAMABAD: Supreme Court was informed on Friday that the post of Director General Hajj has to fulfill three requirements which are not fulfilled by the ex-DG Hajj.
This was informed to a three-judge bench headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry during the hearing of Hajj corruption case.
During the course of proceeding, investigation officer Hussain Asghar apprised the court that the ex-DG Hajj Rao Shakeel did not have the required abilities for the said post.
He further informed the court that the record for the appointment of Rao Shakeel was sent to the Secretary Establishment.
Waseem Sajjad, counsel for former secretary establishment Ismail Qureshi, while giving arguments informed the court that during the course of appointment of DG hajj, three names are sent to the secretary establishment, while the appointing authority is the Prime Minister and not the secretary establishment.
The CJ remarked that the concerned officer was also responsible for the illegal appointment of the Director General adding that the High Court had already rejected their stance in the case of a Joint Secretary.
However, due to the lack of time, Waseem Sajjad requested the court that he had to fly for Lahore and hearing should be adjourned.
Upon which, the court adjourned the hearing till March 20.
