WASHINGTON: US President Barack Obama will share his love of basketball with David Cameron next week, taking the British prime minister to an elite college game in the election swing state of Ohio.
In a show of friendship and of respect for the "special relationship" between Britain and the United States, Obama will take his guest to Dayton for the first round of the annual NCAA men's college basketball tournament.
"The president and the prime minister look forward to a great game between some of our nation's finest collegiate athletes," said a White House official on condition of anonymity.
The visit will come a week after Republican front runner Mitt Romney won the Ohio primary, a victory which could eventually set up a battle with Obama for the crucial general election swing state in November's election.
Cameron and Obama are due to hold talks on Wednesday at the White House and the British leader will be guest of honor and feted with all the glitz and trappings of an official dinner that evening.
First Lady Michelle Obama meanwhile announced that she would host Cameron's wife Samantha at an event marking the upcoming London Olympics with schoolchildren from the Washington DC area on Wednesday.
A later event for young women at the White House will also include children from the Elizabeth Garrett Anderson School in London, which Michelle Obama wowed with a surprise visit during her first official trip abroad with her husband in April 2009.
