LAHORE: Departing coach Dav Whatmore said on Friday he was joining a Dubai-based sports company and would be taking a break from coaching after two years leading the Pakistan side.
The 59-year-old Australian is leaving his post after helping Pakistan to a 1-1 draw in the three-Test series against Sri Lanka in the United Arab Emirates earlier this month.
"At the moment I am not going to coach but I am going to join a sports company in Dubai", the former batsman said at his farewell press conference.
He said his time in Asia had been "exciting but difficult".
Pakistan have been forced to play all of their international cricket on neutral venues since a terrorist attack on the Sri Lankan team bus in Lahore in 2009.
Whatmore said he was "hopeful" that international cricket would return to Pakistan.
"I think international teams should tour to Pakistan and I am sure they will be given top-level security," he said.
Whatmore took the Pakistan job in March 2012 and was immediately successful, helping the team win the Asia Cup.
Under Whatmore, Pakistan had a 22-22 win-loss ratio in one-day matches and won 16 of their 26 Twenty20 games.
But he failed to guide Pakistan to a single Test series victory, losing seven out of 13 Tests and winning and drawing three each.
