PESHAWAR: Provincial Minister for Sports, Tourism and Youth Affairs Syed Aqil Shah on Friday said that the youth had an essential role in development of the country and the government was in process of formulating a policy to ensure their better future.

He was addressing the opening session of a two-day seminar on 'formulation of a new policy for youth', which is being held under the auspices of Tourism Corporation Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (TCKP) in collaboration with Youth Resource Centre (YRC) here at Archive Hall.

Shah informed that the KP Youth Conference would be held in Peshawar during the month of April, while All Pakistan Youth Conference would also be organised in the province.

The two-day seminar is aimed at getting the input of youth before forming a new youth policy in the province. The suggestions and recommendations will be shared with youth experts, lawyers, educationists, members of civil society organisations and other relevant stakeholders before putting it before the provincial government for formal approval.

On the occasion, KP Secretary Tourism Syed Jamaluddin Shah and TCKP Consultant Zahoor Durrani explained to the participants the salient features of the proposed new youth policy. A large number of students from throughout the province participated in the seminar.

Youth Resource Centre Director Mukhtar Aziz Kansi, Director General Sports Engineer Khan Zeb, Director Archaeology and Museums Dr Shah Nazar Khan, and other officials of the Tourism Corporation were present on the occasion.

Aqil Shah said that KP Chief Minister Haider Khan Hoti would chair the Youth Conference, while the Prime Minister will be invited to attend the All Pakistan Youth Conference.

He said that concrete measures were being taken to address the issue of unemployment in the province.
