DERA GHAZI KHAN: A sum of Rs1.6 billion is being invested to build/repair 200 kilometre long road network in DG Khan division in the first phase of two-year plan targeting construction of 44 roads in the division under Chief Minister's vision of modern Punjab.
"These road projects would be a model with regard to durability and beauty", DCO Nadeem Ur Rahman told a gathering of notables at Zila Council hall.He said that tenders worth Rs250 million have been issued for construction of Kot Chutta bypass.
Four road would be completed in the first phase at a cost of Rs300 million in three months including road from Mana Ahmadani to Choti (Jampur) via Noor Wahi road, road from city to Darbar Meer Ali Shah via Wador, road from Basti Ogani to Pir Aadil, and a road from Indus Highway to Basti Ranjhay and Massu Sheikhani. Forty more roads would be included in the second phase.
He said that recommendations have been sent to provincial government for execution of important highway schemes in DG Khan through provincial highway department.
He disclosed that CM has taken notice of the delay in executing Rs5 billion project of two-way Muzaffargarh-Multan segment of Indus Highway and the option of getting the project completed through provincial highway instead of NHA was under consideration.
DCO said that CM's three-year rural road programme would comprise all important roads of the district and would be executed after consulting elected representatives of the people.
XEN Highways Shafqat Hussain Bukhari said that a sum of Rs15 billion would be invested in the first phase of CM's three- year programme to build over 2000 kilometre long roads in the province. Roads under this initiative would be carpeted and at least 12 feet wide and a consultant would monitor the execution round the clock, he added.
He said that a committee formed by Chief Minister Mohammad Shahbaz Sharif would sit in DG Khan to oversee the project execution. The completion of the project would enable farmers transport their agriculture produce and cattle heads to markets at low cost and in short time.
