KARACHI: Small shopkeepers and retailers across the city are observing strike against extortion `by certain elements'.
The markets remained shut in various parts of the city on Tuesday.
"We have no political affiliation but we want peaceful business environment in the city," said Chairman of All Karachi Small Traders Association, Atiq Mir.
He said that the small traders were `perturbed' over the growing number of complaints of extortion.
Meanwhile, the Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) had on Monday deferred the strike call given for Tuesday and instead they said that there will be a peaceful gathering at Old Polo Ground at 3 p.m. to register their protest.
"We will hold our separate meeting at Fresco Chowk at Burns Road at 3 p.m.," said the chairman of All Karachi Small Traders Association Atiq Mir.
