KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister, Syed Qaim Ali Shah Saturday assured the businessmen that police pickets will be set up in markets in Old Town area of the city.
"It is prime responsibility of the government and law enforcement agencies to maintain law and order and provide proper security of life and property to the people," he said while talking to representative delegation of traders and businessmen at Chief Minister's House.
He said, industrialists and business community play important role in strengthening the economy of the country and assured them concerted efforts have been ordered to curb the menace of "Bhatta Khori, kidnapping for ransom, robberies, dacoitees and lawlessness".
He directed the CCPO Karachi to revive the community policing system in Karachi and a proper, effective and prompt policing system be enforced in various commercial and business centers.
Shah maintained the government is taking administrative and political measures to do the needful in this regard.
He directed the CCPO Karachi to arrange immediate police pickets in Old City areas like Denso Hall, Jodia Bazar, Boulton market, Tower, New Chali , Kharadar etc. and police force number be enhanced / increased in SITE area while police patrolling and visit of various business areas be regularly maintained for smooth business activities in the city.
It was also decided to activate the Public Safety Commission programme and necessary steps will be taken early.
The Chief Minister Sindh said that to maintain law & order, price control and other steps, magisterial powers are being revived and for the purpose federal government has been approached, and accordingly necessary amendments will be made.
It was decided in the meeting that for un-earthing the unlicensed arms, a campaign will be launched, and licenses of arms will be surrendered and fresh computerized arm licenses will be issued.
The meeting was informed that there is big quantity of arms without license in the province particularly in Karachi.
Earliar, the Chairman Businessmen Group Siraj Kassim Teli and president KCCI Shafiq Saeed presented problems faced to businessmen, traders and industrialists of the city.
The meeting was also attended by Sindh Home Minister Dr. Zulfiqar Mirza, CCPO Karachi Mr. Saud Mirza, DIG Police (South) Iqbal Mehmood and other high officials of the police department.
