12 dead in Charsadda suicide attack, JUI-F Chief escaped life attempt

 CHARRSADDA: At least 12 persons were killed including two policemen and 31 others injured when a suicide bomber apparently targeting the vehicle of JUI-F Chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman, blew himself up near DCO office on Thursday, police said.

JUI (F) Chief Maulana Fazlur Rehman, who arrived to address party workers remained unhurt in the deadly suicide attack. However, windscreen of Maulana's vehicle was smashed. Two policemen escorting the vehicle of JUI_F Chief including Sub Inspector Jamrooz Khan and constable Haider Shah along with 12 people were killed.

Ameer Jamiat-e- Ulama-e Islam, Maulana Fazlur Rehman had also escaped a similar attack on Wednesday at Swabi. As many as 10 persons were killed in Swabi's suicide hit.

The wind screen of the vehicle carrying former Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Akram Khan Durrani and former Federal Minisiter Azam Swati was also reportedly damaged. However, all the three leaders remained unhurt. The police mobile van was also destroyed in the incident.

The injured were rushed to nearby hospitals in Charsadda and Peshawar. The casualty figure may increase further as condition of several victims is stated to critical. The identity of remaining victims was yet to be ascertained.

Talking to media persons on the occasion, Maulana Fazlur Rehman said Akram Durrani and Azam Swati remained safe whereas two of his guards were injured in the incident.

He said that he would continue to address rallies of JUI (F) in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa adding that he was about to address Jamiat workers in a local madrassa.

JUI (F) Chief said that a deafening blast in the nearby vehicle damaged his vehicle adding that he had not received any threats in connection with the rallies.

The police cordoned off the area soon after the terror incident and escorted Maulana Fazlur Rehman and other leaders to safe place. The rally of JUI ( F) was postponed after the blast. The workers of JUI-F protested over the incident and demanded security besides arrest of the killers.
