KARACHI: Chief Minister Sindh, Syed Qaim Ali Shah, Presided a high level meeting regarding problems and progress of Sindh Cities Improvement Programme at C.M House.
An official statement here on Tuesday pointed out that he said on the occasion that it was the endeavour of present elected government to provide basic amenities to inhabitants all areas including of urban cities.
Qaim Ali Shah said that the situation is bad in many of the cities where there is no proper system of water supply and sanitation.
He said that there seems to be no plans and old system had been damaged and is in a bad condition.
Chief Minister stressed that water supply schemes be given priority in the programme while other schemes pertaining to sanitation and sewerage be properly looked after.
He formed a Committee headed by Advisor to C.M. for Planning and Development, Qaisar Bengali, to hold meeting to review the projects under programme, and submit detailed report within one week.
Earlier, Project Director Sindh Cities Improvement Programme, Naveed Shaikh, in his detailed briefing informed that the objective of programme is to improve the infrastructure and urban services for four to five million people across secondary cities in Sindh through an integrated programme of reforms and investment for which loan was signed on February 6, 2009 which was effective on March 6, 2009.
He added that under infrastructure investment water supply, waste water management and solid waste management services and urban reforms and Municipal governance and finance under sector reforms and institutional development are the interventions.
The Adviser further stated that under first phase six cities of Sukkur, New Sukkur, Rohri, Khairpur, Shikarpur and Larkana have been included for development with initiative of US$ 400 million while Benazirabad, Nawsheroferoz, Moro, Sanghar, Tando Adam, Shahdadpur in second phase while Mirpurkhas, Tando Allahyar, Tando Muhammad Khan and Matli will be developed in third phase.
