goven.404KARACHI: Majority of the religious groups believe in a moderate society in the country, Governor of Sindh, Dr. Ishrat-ul-Ebad Khan said here on Saturday.

He was talking to a delegation of youth from the Punjab province who visited Governor House under the Inter-Provincial Youth Exchange Programme.

"Islam preaches peace, love and brotherhood," he said while responding to various queries of the delegates.

He said Pakistanis were very strong and talented people whose true potential needs to be exploited and added that the whole nation proved it to the world during the 2005 earthquake in Northern areas and that of the floods of last year which wreaked havoc across the country.

"Bad perception about Pakistanis is our major problem which needs to be tackled positively," he observed.

Responding to a question of one of the delegates about the performance of the present provincial government, Sindh Governor said that Master Plan for Karachi and socio-economic stability were the major achievements of the government.

"There was no Master Plan for the megacity, but we fulfilled the challenge and executed various projects while progress is undergoing in other development activities," he said.

Dr. Ibad said that inter-provincial religious harmony has remained a major challenge to government, the steps were being taken to overcome such problems for the larger interest of the country.

He stressed the need to bridge the gap between the educated and uneducated class of the society to allow the people to elect those who were capable for good governance.

To a question about his entry into politics, Dr. Ibad said that he was very impressed with the leadership of MQM chief Altaf Hussain  whom he met during his years in medical college.

He said that MQM chief Altaf Hussain played a pivotal and influential role in his political life.

The meeting was also attended by provincial Minister for Youth Affairs, Faisal Sabzwari, Secretary Youth and Sports, Shoaib Siddiqui and Director Khurshid Shaikh and others.
