 ISLAMABAD: The Competition Commission of Pakistan (CCP) has passed about 32 orders and 219 show cause notices during last three years for the companies and firms due to non-compliance of competition act and for involving in unfair business practices like cartels in the country.

An official of the Commission said here Thursday that the CCP has passed 6 orders and served 47 show cause notices and 4 enquiry reports on jute mills, poultry, RITS and ship agents were conducted and compiled during last six months.

The commission, the official informed that it has also conducted 2 search and inspection operation against ship's agents and Pakistan Vanaspati Association during last six months for removing the cartelization and to protect the consumers rights in the country.

Besides this, it also conducted study and reports. The reports of aviation and power sector have been finalized and study reports including private schooling sector, health care sector, polyester staple fiber sector, automobile and cooking oil and ghee sector for public comments.

He said that about 45 No Objection Certificates (NOC) were also issued for merger, where as 34 companies were granted exemption.

He said that during last three years CCP conducted total 19 enquiries reports and held four search and inspection operation in APCMA, PSMA, Poultry and PJMA.

Meanwhile, he informed that Pakistan Jute Mills Association has deposited Rs. 16 million penalty and it was also looking into the price hike in ghee, bottle water, milk and other commodities adding that strict action would be taken against the companies find involved in the prohibited practices.

The Commission was also looking into the matter of local pharmaceutical industry and conducting a study to promote the health competition as the price of medicines registered considerable increase were in local industry.

He said that CCP would organize an international conference by the end of this year with an aim to promote the health competition in the industrial sector of the country.
